Biography
Samuel “Sam” Bridges was a former Stanford Hospital worker whose firing helped provoke the April 1971 hospital sit-in. Police stopped Bridges and Black Liberation Front member Chris Laury while they were driving to Ukiah on May 16, 1971. A contemporary account says officers beat both men and accused them of offenses involving a visible .45-caliber pistol, marijuana and an open wine bottle. Both pleaded not guilty. The available record does not establish an overnight booking, a release date or the disposition of the charges.
