Biography

LeRoy H. Wood was the Communist Party’s Washington, D.C., district chairman. A federal jury convicted him in the Baltimore Smith Act case, and on April 4, 1952 the court sentenced him to three years in prison and a $1,000 fine. Marshals took him into custody after sentencing, and he later served at federal institutions including Ashland, Kentucky, and Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The exact release date remains unresolved.
