Biography

Roy Cecil Kepler was a pacifist and founder of Kepler’s Books in Menlo Park. Local reporting documents jail for a 1960 anti-nuclear protest and an October 1967 Oakland anti-draft arrest. A retrospective describes Santa Rita confinement and a trespass plea in the 1960 episode. His subsequent public career establishes completed historical custody. Archival records distinguish his WWII Civilian Public Service camp service from these later jail episodes. A memorial identifies his death in 1994, without an exact day used here. Cases

Charges: Trespassing during a 1960 anti-nuclear protest
Arrested: Aug 9, 1960
Incarcerated: Aug 9, 1960
Sentence: Michael Doyle’s retrospective reports three days at Santa Rita before a guilty trespass plea. This is time before the plea, not a verified imposed sentence or total detention duration. The Almanac independently confirms 1960 protest jail custody. Accounts identify different laboratory locations (Berkeley versus Livermore); that discrepancy remains unresolved. Exact custody dates and sentencing outcome are unset. Sources: https://a3mreunion.org/remembrance/kepler-r.html ; https://www.almanacnews.com/morgue/2005/2005_05_04.keplersa.shtml
Arrested: October 1967
Sentence: The October 20, 1967 Berkeley Barb reports Roy Kepler’s sit-down arrest; the Almanac independently identifies the October anti-draft action. Exact custody dates, imposed sentence and actual duration are not established here. A separate December 1967 arrest and reported ten-day sentence are not conflated with this October episode.
