Biography
Rose Nelson Lightcap was an officer of the Jewish People’s Fraternal Order. Immigration agents arrested her on August 10, 1950 for alleged Communist Party membership and association with an organization accused of advocating the forceful overthrow of the government. She was confined on Ellis Island during the government’s deportation campaign and later obtained release under $5,000 bail. Surviving accounts indicate more than one period of detention but do not establish exact endpoints for a reliable total.
