Biography

Robert Zellner was a SNCC field secretary — the only white participant in the Oct. 4, 1961 McComb, Mississippi student demonstration — who was beaten by a mob on the courthouse steps, jailed two days, and charged with breach of the peace and contributing to the delinquency of minors.

Zinn individually names this Freedom Rider among those jailed in Albany following the December 10, 1961 railway-terminal arrests. The account says Hayden was released before the remaining group; it does not supply an individual final discharge day or a complete duration for this person.
