Biography

Robert Farmer, a miners’ subdistrict president, was arrested and held without bail in the prosecution over John Majors’s June 27, 1922 death near New Lafferty, Ohio. The Worker reports his acquittal on first-degree murder before the next defendant’s trial. It attributes the prosecutions to an attack on organized miners. Salzman identifies Farmer as then vice-president of Subdistrict 6, District 6, United Mine Workers, arrested with Venturato, Agosti and eleven others after the June 27, 1922 killing. Farmer was acquitted; the article says remaining cases were dropped. That general retrospective does not supply Farmer’s individual discharge day.
