Biography

A Black worker held in Bellevue Hospital’s prison ward after a racist mob attacked him at an East Side cafe while he socialized with Italian workers. Page 3 reports that he escaped with aid, was overtaken and severely beaten, then arrested rather than his assailants. Police alleged he ran over a child while fleeing; the newspaper treats the prosecution as a racial frame-up. Communist and Black workers planned a defense demonstration and counsel. The report proves prison-hospital custody, without a precise arrest day, conviction, release or full duration.
