Biography

John Worcester was a Presbyterian minister from Anaconda, Montana, and a native of Butte. On February 16, 1983, he climbed the fence around a Minuteman missile silo during the Silence One Silo campaign, spent nearly an hour praying, and was arrested for trespass. He refused a $500 bond and remained jailed through his February 23 trial. The March 9, 1983 Nuclear Resister reports that he was convicted and was then serving a ninety-day sentence. The anticipated mid-May release was a forecast; his actual discharge and total completed custody are not established by this issue.
