Biography
Reuel Mugo Gatheru was a Kenyan student at Lincoln University and an anti-colonial writer. An immigration officer questioned him at the university on September 23, 1952 about his political work and alleged ties to the Kenyan independence movement. Officials ordered him to leave by November 5 or face arrest, but students, faculty, the NAACP, and Thurgood Marshall supported his defense. The government ultimately dropped the deportation proceeding. Gatheru was never arrested or confined in the case.
