Biography
Ralph Stoltzmann was president of the union leading the 1934 strike against the Chicago Motor Coach Company. The company fired him after he spoke about the bus drivers’ conditions on WCFL radio. On September 26, police arrested him in connection with the killing of dispatcher James Kelly, who had continued working during the strike. A grand jury indicted Stoltzmann and six other people on a murder charge. Union supporters challenged the prosecution as a frame-up.
