Biography
Ralph Robert Rogers was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi, on July 9, 1961, for participating in the Freedom Rides and challenging segregation in interstate transportation — one of the arrests recorded by the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission and preserved in the Civil Rights Digital Library. The catalog establishes the arrest, the participation, and the individually identified police photograph, but not the court disposition, any transfer to Parchman, or the physical release date; those fields are unresolved pending county-jail, court, or penitentiary records.
Original arrest charge identified
Jackson Police Department offense report 49293, original PDF pages 1 and 6–7, individually identifies this Freedom Rider in the July 9, 1961 arrests and records the charge as breach of the peace. The blank charge field is filled with the charge alone, without adding background to that field. The report documents transport to headquarters and jail; these admission dates are already recorded. It does not establish this person’s actual release day or served term. Gordon’s separately attached disposition is not copied to other riders, and interview statements about willingness to remain for six months are not time served.
