Biography
Peter Butler was incarcerated at Attica in 1971 and helped establish the Attica Liberation Faction. The prisoners' manifesto named him as one of five representatives authorized to negotiate with state and prison officials. The group organized political education and demands for improved prison conditions.
This profile concerns political organizing during imprisonment. It does not establish that the original conviction was politically motivated. Exact custody boundaries and the later release history remain unresolved.
The primer explicitly names Butler among the five founders of the Attica Liberation Faction, alongside Lott, Noble, Jones-El and Blyden, organizing political education and demands during confinement. The collective reference to earlier Auburn participation does not identify which individual took part, so it is not assigned as a separate Butler imprisonment.

The December 1971 report names him among Attica inmates seeking an injunction against further physical abuse.
