Biography

Pete Chappa was a steelworkers’ organizer recently arrested in Monessen for labor activity, according to the Daily Worker, October 22, 1931, page 3. The account reports his election as district organizer at the October 18 steelworkers’ conference. It does not identify his arrest day, formal charge, release mechanism or custody duration. He is not equated with the different Hammond activist Sam Chappa. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1931/v08-n254-NY-oct-22-1931-DW-LOC.pdf

Contemporary original newspaper source; individual page evidence retained in review audit 587. Exact individual custody dates and duration are not inferred from relative dates or collective claims.

Page3’s December22 JerseyCity report names TonyMinerich,PeteChaypa,BenCarreathers and A.Rivera held under NewJersey’s disorderly-persons act while passing through. ILD won a reduction of bail, printed as $3,000 to $1,000,with constitutional appeal underway. Reduction is not proof bail was furnished or that they were released. Chaypa is a contextual variant of existing mine/steel organizer Chappa.
