Biography

The Militant reports two distinct Portland dispositions involving student Percy Hampton. A June 27, 1969 conviction for disorderly conduct involving profanity produced a thirty-day suspended term and one year’s probation. A separate trial concerning his May 24 arrest produced concurrent ninety-day terms for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest; an assault charge was dropped. The source describes actual police arrest and beating in the May incident but does not establish ninety completed days. The Militant, August 1, 1969, vol.33 no.31, original PDF page 12. The Militant reports that Percy Hampton was arrested on June 15, 1969 for loitering three blocks from his Portland home, with bail set at $500. It calls this his third arrest in three weeks. This is distinct from the May 24 incident described in the August 1 issue. The Militant, July 4, 1969, vol.33 no.27, original PDF page 5.
