Biography

Peg Lockett was a Black Mississippi prisoner lynched while being transferred from De Kalb to Scooba for a hearing on an alleged highway-robbery charge. Myra Page’s October 1930 Labor Defender article explicitly identifies both Lockett and White and places the racial killing during their prisoner transfer. The exact arrest and death dates, adjudication and custody duration are not supplied. The charge is an allegation.
