Biography
Pedro Colón Almenas was a University of Puerto Rico student activist and member of the Union of Socialist Youth. FBI agents arrested him at home on July 3, 2001 over an alleged assault on an ROTC officer during an April anti-ROTC demonstration at the Río Piedras campus. Supporters maintained that he had tried to separate people fighting at the protest. He received a one-year prison sentence followed by three years of probation and was imprisoned in 2002. The prosecution concerned the campus protest against the military presence.
