Biography

Pamela Moses is a Memphis voting-rights activist and founder of the local Black Lives Matter chapter. Born on October 5, 1977, she studied at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and earned a master’s degree at Union University. In 2019, a probation employee signed a certificate stating that she had completed probation, which she submitted while seeking to restore her voting rights. Officials later withdrew that certification, and she was prosecuted for an illegal voter-registration entry. A jury convicted her on November 4, 2021, and Judge Mark Ward imposed a sentence of six years and one day on January 31, 2022. An undisclosed corrections-department email undermined the allegation that she had deliberately misled officials. Ward granted a new trial, and she was released on February 25, 2022. Prosecutors dismissed the charge on April 22, 2022. She spent a total of 82 days in custody in the case.
