Biography

Otto Nelson was a member of the Unemployed Council in Chicago. A March 16 dispatch printed in the March 23, 1931 Daily Worker reports that police arrested newspaper sellers at the Chicago and North Western Railroad shops and that Judge McCarthy had recently sentenced Nelson to ninety days at hard labor for selling the Daily Worker there. The article treats the prosecution as suppression of Communist labor activity. It gives no exact arrest, sentencing, admission or discharge date.
