Biography

Lester Carter identifies the white train witness called Texas Slim as Odell Gladwell and names Lindsay Gladwell as his brother. Carter says authorities questioned the witnesses in Scottsboro, put them in the run-around, then locked them inside a steel cage for the night and kept them there the following day. He describes Odell being placed in a dungeon too small to sit or lie down after making noise, and the other boys forcing its door open with a mop handle. This is actual witness restraint in the initial 1931 Scottsboro prosecution, not a documented individual criminal conviction. Exact admission, release and complete duration are unprinted.
