Biography
Norton Anthony Russell was an engineer from Yellow Springs, Ohio, prosecuted for refusing to answer the House Un-American Activities Committee. He received thirty days and a $500 fine. The Supreme Court reversed his conviction on May 21, 1962 because the indictment failed to identify the subject under committee inquiry. Whether Russell served any part of the jail term while his appeals were pending remains unresolved.
