Biography
Socrates, Murugesu Vinayagamoorthy, Vijayshanthar Patpanathan, Gaspar Raj Maria Paulian, Namasivaya Viswanathan, and an unknown individual conspired to provide resources, currency, training, and false documents to the Tamil Tigers. Socrates wrote a $500 check to an informant posing as a State Department official and then gave $5,000 to another person he believed was also a State Department official. In addition, Socrates relayed to a Tamil Tigers member the contents of what he believed was a classified document purchased from State Department officials.

Individual arrest and federal endpoint review October 13, 2026: The contemporary August 22, 2006 report specifically says Socrates was arrested the preceding Monday, August 21, and held pending his court appearance. The August 19 sting arrest in DOJ's group announcement concerns four other defendants and is not assigned to him. The official BOP locator identifies Nachimuthu Socrates, register 16922-014, age 74, noncustody as of April 19, 2013. The distinctive full name and age are independently consistent with DOJ's defendant identification. This replaces the unresolved endpoint with the verified historical BOP endpoint, not the previously rejected April 2026 claim. Initial sentence admission and custody continuity remain unknown; no six-year uninterrupted duration is inferred. An identifiable photograph remains unresolved.
