Biography

Mujahid Abdul Halim, also known as Talmadge Hayer and Thomas Hagan, admitted taking part in the assassination of Malcolm X at New York’s Audubon Ballroom on February 21, 1965. Police arrested him outside the ballroom after members of the audience apprehended him. A jury convicted him with Muhammad Abdul Aziz and Khalil Islam on March 11, 1966, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment on April 14. Halim repeatedly maintained that Aziz and Islam had not participated in the killing. He was released on parole in 2010. Unlike his two codefendants, who were exonerated in 2021, Halim was the admitted participant; his conviction is not described as wrongful or vacated.
