Biography

Monzer Al Kassar, a Syrian arms dealer, age 63, was caught in a 2007 sting by DEA agents posing as FARC rebels seeking weapons to kill Americans. Convicted of conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens and officers, conspiracy to acquire and export surface-to-air missiles, material-support conspiracy, and money laundering. Sentenced to 360 months federal prison.

DOJ’s May 2015 summary dates the guilty verdict to November 20, 2008 and his arrival in New York after extradition from Spain to June 13, 2008. This does not establish the beginning or continuity of his earlier Spanish detention.
