Biography
Milka Sablich, known as "Flaming Milka," was a young picket leader during the 1927 Colorado coal strike. She was jailed more than once and refused conditional freedom requiring her to abandon strike activity. She later obtained release on bond and toured to raise support for the miners.
1920s custody review: The Daily Worker, December 7, 1927, page 1, carries a December 6 Denver dispatch reporting her still in jail. The New Leader, December 31, page 3, records her December 27 visit in New York and describes her eventual release on bond. These reports support December 1927 release at month precision, not a specific day. The interview says the second detention lasted about five weeks; that approximation and a separate short stay do not support the former exact 38-day total. Arrest and initial confinement remain year-only, and multiple stays are not treated as uninterrupted custody. Existing photograph retained.
