Biography
McKinley Burr was a Black worker on Chicago’s South Side and a prominent Daily Worker seller. Page 3 of the August 9, 1934 Daily Worker retrospectively reports that police shot and arrested him during the previous summer and accused him of robbery. The newspaper calls the accusation a frame-up motivated by his activity, describes a long prison sentence without specifying its length, and credits an ILD-led defense campaign with securing his freedom by this report. The allegations of police misconduct and unjust prosecution are attributed contemporary reporting. He is distinct from Cambridge anti-fascist defendant Timothy Burr.
