Biography
Named as McGregor Ross in the IWW’s partial Red Special deportation-detention roster. The report says the group left Seattle February 6, 1919 and arrived at Ellis Island February 11. It individually records release from Ellis Island on 1919-03-17. This establishes actual U.S. immigration custody connected with IWW repression, not a criminal conviction or proof that deportation was ultimately carried out. Original arrest date and full detention duration unknown. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/one-big-union-monthly/v02n06-jun-1920_One%20Big%20Union.pdf#page=39
The hearing testimony identifies McGregor S. Ross as a Scottish IWW organizer, describing prolonged Washington detention, transfer to Ellis Island, actual release and return to Port Angeles. Following that release, officials describe a state criminal-syndicalism arrest at Port Angeles and renewed immigration arrest and confinement at Seattle by the March 1920 hearing. These later proceedings are distinct from the earlier release recorded in the existing case. No exact later arrest or discharge day, new criminal conviction or completed deportation is established. The two later agencies are not treated as two separate physical episodes without an intervening release.
