Biography

The July 22 issue reports arrest at the Friday July 19, 1929 demonstration outside the Nanking consulate, 13 Astor Place, New York, opposing action against the Soviet Union. The case was heard by Magistrate Hyman Bushel with ILD attorney Jacques Buitenkant defending. The explicit final page 5 list names May Kaplan among the seven who served two days after refusing fines. She is not conflated with Nat/Nathan Kaplan, whose five-day term is separately discussed. The issue contains inconsistent counts and disposition lists across pages 1 and 5; those conflicts are preserved without manufacturing a final discharge date or full original custody total.
