Powers’s account of the May 1931 Empire Steel strike in Mansfield as jailed without charges when police, company men and American Legion members suppressed rank-and-file meetings. The article places the attack on the Friday following the May 14 meeting, indicating May 15, but gives no exact discharge or complete custody duration.
