Biography
Masashi Tanimoto was a Japanese American incarcerated at Tule Lake who refused the 1943 loyalty questionnaire in protest over violations of citizenship rights. He was transferred to county jail in Alturas, California. This punitive confinement followed his initial wartime incarceration; the questionnaire was not its original cause. Exact dates of the jail transfer and return remain unverified.
