Biography
Mary Beatrice Belfrage was a British journalist and former wife of National Guardian editor Cedric Belfrage. Immigration authorities arrested her on a deportation warrant on August 17, 1953, took her to Ellis Island, fingerprinted her, and held her for several hours before releasing her on $2,000 bail. The charge alleged Communist activity in Los Angeles at least 15 years earlier.
