Biography
Marks Whittier was imprisoned at Deer Island after a Boston unemployment demonstration. In a signed letter printed May 7, 1934, he recalled that Judge Hayden sentenced six demonstrators in March 1932 and imposed a nine-month term on him. His description of receiving working-class periodicals for the first two weeks, followed by continued confinement under a literature ban, establishes actual custody of at least two weeks. The source does not establish his complete time served or exact admission and release dates.
