Biography

Mark Byler was detained during a Christian Peacemaker Teams prayer action against U.S. Navy bombing in Vieques on May 2, 2001. The team’s contemporaneous statement describes Byler being handcuffed during the action and reports that the four delegation members remained in custody.

The source documents arrest and continuing detention at the time of the report. An individual custodial sentence, facility and release date have not been established. Brian Ladd’s later halfway-house sentence is not attributed to Byler.
