Biography

Mac Sumner was an active National Miners Union member reported abducted from his home on December 3, 1931 by two carloads of deputized coal-company gunmen. A December 10 Pineville dispatch in the Daily Worker stated that no word had been heard from him and that his whereabouts remained unknown. The account documents an alleged political abduction and weeklong disappearance, without establishing a jail location, an eventual release, or death.
