Biography

Marshall names M. J. Jones among the four editors and proprietors of Harrisburg's Patriot and Union arrested at their homes on August 6, 1862. The stated military order concerned a handbill allegedly discouraging enlistments. They were transported to Washington and confined in room 10 of the Old Capitol Prison. The narrative says they were liberated on August 23 after examination and sworn statements, and returned home the following day. Source: John A.
