Biography

Lloyd Pinion was a Black porter at the French Hospital, 1821 Orleans Avenue, New Orleans, for four years. The June 1933 Labor Defender reports that police shot him nine times while he was confined in a Fourth Precinct cell. His death preceded an ILD meeting held May 16 at Ernest Soler’s home, 517 Upperline Street, to demand an investigation. The source frames his killing as racial police terror. It supplies no exact arrest or death day, formal charge, court sentence or established medical diagnosis.
