Biography

Littleton Prince was prosecuted in Pike County, Alabama, for “negro stealing” after being accused of carrying away two enslaved people. Alabama archival records show that he escaped jail and was later arrested in Savannah, Georgia, for return to Alabama. Prince maintained that he was innocent, and one of the enslaved people reportedly supported his account, but the conviction stood. He was hanged in 1833. No surviving evidence found in this review ties him to an abolitionist organization, so his motive remains unresolved.
