Biography

Lester Carter identifies Lindsay Gladwell as the younger brother of Odell Gladwell, called Texas Slim, among the white train witnesses held in Scottsboro. Carter says authorities questioned the witnesses, placed them in the jail run-around and then locked them inside a steel cage for the night, keeping them there the following day. The account documents actual witness restraint in the initial 1931 Scottsboro prosecution, but no individual statutory charge, sentence, exact physical custody endpoints or complete duration. Odell’s separate dungeon punishment is not assigned to Lindsay. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/labordefender/1933/v09n11-dec-1933-lab-def.pdf#page=19
