Biography

Lillian Greenberg was a Chicago garment-strike picket associated with the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. The authorities imprisoned this union activist in 1926 for defying the anti-picketing injunction during the 1924 strike.

The June 19, 1926 Chicago garment-prisoner account adds personal and prison-life detail. The report describes a reception by sixty union members after her actual release following ten days in jail, with flowers and a planned gold fountain pen. Her intended Bryn Mawr summer course was prospective. This issue does not print a physical discharge day or justify back-calculating admission. The June 22 report says that after her completed ten-day service Greenberg was actually studying economics at the Bryn Mawr Summer School, adding an accomplished educational step to earlier plans.
