Biography
León Martínez was imprisoned during the 1979 Vieques campaign against U.S. Navy operations. The January–February 1980 New Movement bulletin identifies Martínez among six imprisoned Vieques resisters. Wilfredo Vélez Hernández’s first-person memoir recalls imprisonment together at Oso Blanco and transfer to Kennedy Youth Center in West Virginia; a historical chronology independently names León Martínez in the May 19, 1979 arrest cohort.
No individual sentence or precise admission and release dates have been established. Vélez Hernández’s four-month sentence is not assigned to Martínez, and the name remains the one corroborated in the custody sources.
