Leo Frederick Burt
Biography
Leo Frederick Burt was a University of Wisconsin student and rowing-crew member whom federal authorities accused of taking part in the August 24, 1970 Sterling Hall bombing, an antiwar attack on the Army Mathematics Research Center that killed researcher Robert Fassnacht. A federal grand jury indicted Burt on September 2, 1970 for sabotage, destruction of government property and conspiracy. The FBI placed him on its Ten Most Wanted list two days later and still lists him as wanted. Burt, who has also used the name Eugene Donald Fieldston and an alternate birth date of April 15, 1950, has never been captured, booked, tried or imprisoned in this case.
Documented case history
The FBI poster lists April 18, 1948 and April 15, 1950 as dates of birth used and Eugene Donald Fieldston as an alias. Its September 2, 1970 federal indictment is not an arrest or prison admission. One portrait is labeled 1969; the other two are explicitly age-progressed illustrations, not actual contemporary photographs.
