Biography
Leo Bazile was a former chair of the Black Student Union at Stanford University. Authorities issued warrants for Bazile and Black Liberation Front member Chris Laury on May 4, 1971, accusing them of assaulting Stanford Hospital clerk Mary Jane Schmidt during a labor dispute. Bazile was arrested and initially held on $12,500 bail, later reduced to $6,250. Their defense showed that Schmidt had selected Bazile from photographs before a lineup and misidentified another man when asked to identify Laury in court. A jury acquitted Bazile and Laury of every charge. The available record does not establish Bazile’s exact booking and release dates.
