Biography

A Chicago anti-war speaker identified only as Comrade Lawson was abducted from a Lenin Memorial and anti-war meeting in Wabash, Indiana on Monday, January 23, 1933. A January 24 dispatch in the next day's Daily Worker reports forty American Legion men dragged him from the platform, beat him and forced him aboard a departing automobile. His whereabouts remained unknown and police refused to search or apprehend the abductors. This documents extrajudicial confinement connected to political speech, without a proven formal jail admission, release, total duration or fuller identity.
