Biography

Lawrence “Deacon” McCubbin was arrested on April 5, 1973 during a Gay Activists Alliance sit-in at District of Columbia police chief Jerry Wilson’s office. The group had sought a meeting for eighteen months to address police harassment of gay people.

The back-page report names Bill Bricker, GAA president, Cade Ware, vice-president, and Larry (Deacon) MacCubbin as the three men arrested for unlawful entry at police chief Jerry Wilson’s office on April 5, 1973. Ten gay activists had sat in for five hours seeking a meeting about harassment and entrapment. Five hours measures the protest before arrest, not imprisonment; no individual release or served duration is given.
