Biography
Laurent Frantz was a Birmingham civil-liberties lawyer and Communist Party member. Police arrested him without a warrant in April 1940 under Birmingham Ordinance 4902 and held him incommunicado for 48 hours. During that detention he was served with a summons to testify before the Dies Committee. He later became a prominent civil-rights lawyer and legal scholar.
