Biography
LaSaunders Hudson was a Memphis dry-cleaning business owner who refused to pay state taxes as a protest against the uncompensated oppression of Black people. On June 15, 1972 he disarmed four revenue agents at his shop, made three leave without their clothes and held the fourth while demanding to meet Governor Winfield Dunn. After an eight-hour standoff Hudson met the governor and was taken into custody. He spent the night in the Memphis jail and was released on $2,000 bond on June 16. A kidnapping accusation was dropped, leaving a charge of assault with intent to murder; the final disposition has not been located.
