Biography

Kris Selvig joined a Christmas Day prayer protest at the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant near Denver on December 25, 1981. Arrested and taken to jail, the five protesters refused bond at their December 28 arraignment. A January 17, 1982 contemporary report confirms that they remained jailed after a January 8 hearing, facing contempt proceedings for violating an injunction against trespass at the plant.

Separate October–November 1982 Rocky Flats imprisonment

The Nuclear Resister No. 13, November 30, 1982, page 5, reports Kris Selvig arrested October 4 at Rocky Flats, held in jail from that arrest, tried November 15 and released after receiving a $1,000 trespass fine. This establishes the actual October 4–November 15, 1982 custody interval, distinct from the December 25, 1981 injunction/contempt case. The report says no further punishment had yet been imposed for violating prior Rocky Flats probation; no additional term or release is inferred.

Contemporary anti-nuclear custody report

The Rocky Flats report individually names Peter Sprunger-Froese, Hedy Sawadsky, Jennifer Haines, Kris Selvig and Ann Zook, continuously held in Denver County Jail from their Christmas Day 1981 arrests until the March 1, 1982 trial. It reports conviction, immediate sentencing and release when all jail sentences were suspended. This profile’s imposed term was 4 months, entirely suspended, with one year probation—not 4 months actually served. The article mistakenly says six were released after naming only five; no sixth person is invented. Jennifer Haines’s separately stored March 3 sentencing day conflicts with this account of immediate March 1 sentencing and is not silently overwritten. Other episodes remain unchanged.

Separate 1983 Rocky Flats custody and probation proceeding

The report identifies Kris Selvig in the August 9, 1983 Rocky Flats arrest and the August 29 disposition imposing fifty-one more days for violating probation. At the September 19 trial, the judge said Selvig and George Tamburello had already spent about forty days in jail; Tamburello was released immediately, but Selvig remained held on the probation matter. Her anticipated late-October release and the October roster entry are forecasts, not actual discharge. No fifty-one-day completed total, back-calculated admission or release day is inferred.

Actual release confirmed after the 1983 Rocky Flats imprisonment

The November 15, 1983 Recently Released list expressly names Kris Selvig. This confirms that actual discharge occurred in 1983 after the separately documented Rocky Flats imprisonment; the exact day remains unknown. The earlier projected late-October date is not adopted as fact, and the fifty-one-day imposed probation sentence is not converted into a completed duration.

The May 9, 1981 newsletter reports that the four Lockheed blood-pouring protesters pleaded no contest on March 26. On April 24 Larry Purcell received six months plus two years suspended, Larry Ferlazzo four months, Dan Delaney three months, and Kris Selvig forty-five days. It identifies the three men as currently at Elmwood Correctional Facility in Milpitas. Selvig’s impending release was only a forecast. The action occurred March 11; neither that action day nor the sentencing date is treated as a proven admission day.
