Biography
Kirk Taylor was a member of the San Francisco Black Caucus, arrested with co-chairman Larry Pinkney in 1972 when Berkeley police searched their car without a warrant. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen goods and held on $8,500 bond, jailed for two days until his bond was reduced at arraignment. The prosecutor offered to drop all but the weapons charge in exchange for a 90-day sentence with 60 days suspended and two years of probation; the report does not establish that he accepted this offer or give his actual release date. The newspaper reports that Taylor learned the accusations only after police took him to the station. The account describes an offered plea, not a completed sentence or a dismissal of every charge.
