Biography

Known in the source as Kid Boy Jackson, this Mississippi sharecropper was held in Magnolia jail after a deadly crop dispute. The October 25, 1931 Jackson dispatch published October 26 says he killed white planter Bramlette Bates at Liberty on October 22, evaded a mob and was arrested by a sheriff’s posse. The paper presents the prosecution and threatened lynching as repression of a Black sharecropper’s resistance. A mob gathered at Liberty while indictment was proposed, and Governor Bilbo sent troops. The arrest is not automatically dated to the earlier killing. His legal given names, exact jail admission, case outcome, physical discharge and complete term remain unknown.
