Biography

K. Heikilla was a North Dakota farmer and Communist Party leader arrested on a charge of intimidating a federal court. A February 19 Minot dispatch in the Daily Worker, February 21, 1935, page 4 says the charge arose from protest telegrams demanding freedom for seven Divide County farmers held over a 1933 farm-sale case. The report states that K. Heikilla was held under $2,500 bond and that the ILD sent protests to federal officials in Fargo. The seven underlying defendants remained held despite their indictments being quashed; that procedural action is not a release for this defendant. The source does not expand the printed name or provide an exact arrest day, institution, trial outcome or custody total.
