Biography

Joseph Szczepankiewicz was arrested in the Wilkes-Barre deportation investigation described in the 1920 congressional case summary. Officials reported statements at arrest and hearing acknowledging about four months of Communist Party membership, and party records found in his room; he said the records had been left by the local secretary. Officials recommended deportation, but the warrant was canceled March 26. Four months describes reported membership, not imprisonment. Exact arrest, physical release and complete custody duration remain unknown.
